Here he is leaving to go to his car in a merry mood.
Churchill wanted to go to the front line, but his soldiers forbade it. So they drove him instead to the Materborn feature. Churchill had to stop every ten minutes for a pee; Montgomery fumed, everybody else laughed.
The second picture shows them (Crerar in duffel coat, Alanbrooke in a British Warm, frightfully keen Simonds coatless, WSC in a British warm, and Montgomery in some paratroop jacket he has acquired from somewhere) all standing on the Materborn Feature and looking across the flooded Rhine valley into Germany - I suppose towards Emerich. It was misty so they didn't see much - but over there were the Huns, so they were excited.
Can you please identify where exactly they were standing on the Materborn Feature. Is it called the Bresserburg? I suppose it is all covered in trees now so there may no longer be an Aussichtspunkt.
