Of couse the military jeep did not have a license plate light, but in some provinces, to pass a safety, you require one.

The iltis light would not be well suited to this role, as it was not a flush mount. The old bracket from the 5/4 ton chevy tailgate is a good match, as it had both the lamp and the bracket for the plate all built into one. You will have to replace the regular 12 volt bulb with either a 623 or a 1251 bulb. It can be mounted either on the back of the jerry can bracket or else slightly underneath.

Also, there is the lamp from the back of the LSVW. I believe is is a Grote product, and while you can buy it in 24 volt, you will be far quicker off to buy it in 12 volt and replace the bulb. It is, as is so many lamp units today, all plastic so you might want to avoid mounting it right on the back of the jerry can bracket. It makes a lousy bumper.
