Canada's greatest international rivalry outside of hockey is between our national Rugby team and the All-Blacks from New Zealand. Now there's a match! An old school chum and former team-mate of mine, Pip Robins made the National team as a Scrum Half. I used to love watching them play in Brockton Oval in Stanley park back in the day before it burned down.
The Vancouver and District High School Rugby championship is played for the prestigious "New Zealand Shield" which was donated to our Rugby League long, long ago by the All-Blacks. Twice I made it to the championship...once in 1971 when I made the Senior team even though I was still in the eleventh grade and then again in 1972 as a Senior. Unfortunately we lost both times, to McGee who were a Rugby powerhouse back then.
