That said, there is merit in the idea of replacing the Ford coil with a conventional coil, which then allows the option of running 6v or 12v.
This can be done using a commercially made adapter such as available from Patrick's or Mac's Auto (both in the US), or cannibalising your old (presumably dead!) ford coil. The upper and lower halves are held together with brass rivets. It is a matter ir cutting these rivets and using the lower plate. Feed a length of High Tension wire to the graphite contact (hold in place with RTV silicon or epoxy) and run this to the coil.
