Lionel the divisional/unit sign was 9 inches tall and 8 inches wide. Top 4.5 inches was the divisional sign which in his case was the rising sun in gold with a blue background as the 1st pioneer Battalion was a HQ unit. Bottom 4.5 inches was the unit sign which would have been a white #37 over a red background. Later in the war the unit sign would have read 2/37 as he was in the 2/1 Pioneer Battalion. Looking from the front of a vehicle this division/unit sign would have been on the RHS (passenger side) of the vehicle. On the right hand mudguard in a 6 inch yellow circle would have been the bridge weight of the vehicle in black...for example a black 6 in a yellow circle. For vehicles towing trailers the trailer weight would be there after a dash as well...6/9 for example.

Hope this helps and yes the 1st Pioneers were in the middle East as well. Trucks would have been G/S, Tippers etc.

hope this helps
