Hi there!
The square guards were due to issues with availabilaty of the 1st type of wheel rim.
The mod required replaceing the hub/brake assy and with the new rims also increased the wheel track requireing new wider mud guards.
However this mod was not undertaken on the 200 gal water tank varient of this trailer.
As a side note to these trailers when I was in the army and posted to 18Fld Sqn Lt in 1981 at times the trailers were refered to as "Humber trailer" though at the time I did not make the connection with the 1 Ton Humbers. Though years latter I did after I got a 1 ton Humber.
I also own 2 of the 200 gal water tank trailers, one in resonble condition and the other poor as well as a so so 1 tone trailer.
I do have the above mentioned mod info as well as some others as well a a RPS for trailers.
