That first image does look very much like a Commer Beetle.
But regarding comfort levels, the "Ant" with full windscreens is actually a very comfortable truck to drive, with it's softer suspension (than a Bedford MW) and "bucket" seats with backs that are curved so they wrap around and help keep your back warm. The driver sits alongside the engine and is comfortably warmed by it, also the drivers position is so far inboard that when presenting a right turn hand signal (remember those?) only the drivers hand can be seen past the GS body.
The passenger sits at an unsocial angle, with his back to the driver (not that you can converse over 25mph anyway) and if he does not hold onto the handle attached to the dashboard during a sharp right turn he will find himself being flung out - not pleasant.
If they were all comfortable and easy to drive then half the fun would be gone.
