Just food for thought.
How much does $25,000 worth buy in the way of a pretty common sort of a motor car? About half of one?
Something you can go down the road and buy on any average day. (assuming you have the money to spare)

At home it would cost around $60,000 for a reasonable speced V8 Holden Commodore. (average to good, nice new car)
How does that compare to something you can't find?

You are right about how it happens Paul,(that's just life) but depending on which side of ownership your on, it changes how you see it.
Be discerning about what you buy. There is not a lot of NOS carrier parts floating around the world waiting for you to trip over. If you don't get one with most of the bits, you are going to be making the bits, because your tired of waiting for them to turn up.
BTW, after you made them, they will turn up.
