1: The first vehicles to have the ripstop nylon tarps that I recall were the M151A2s of 1974 vintage, soon followed by the 5/4 ton of 1976 vintage. They have been the standard since that time.
2: The bar treads finished in the late 70s with the introduction of the AVGP. However, there is a photo of one of the XW350s of 1974 vintage wearing MIchelin radial tires.
Time lines of tires were :1974 M151A2: US non directional
1976: 5 ton M800 series diesel 5 tons: US non directional
1976: 5/4 ton Chevrolet CK2500: commercial Goodyear M&S bias ply tires.
1978: LAV1 (AVGP): Michelin Radials
1982: MLVW Goodyear Bias Ply commercial mud and snow tread bias ply
1984: Iltis Michelin Radial
1989: HLVW Michelin Radial
1992: LSVW Michelin Radial
3: No 16x20 tires that I have ever seen. We used to have 14x20s on a few different vehicles and guns, and some of the radials on the HLVW and LAV6 may be nearing that, but in metric sizing.
4: Other than some of the 3/4 ton and 800kg trailers, which were square steel tubing as Chris mentioned, none that I can think of. The 5/4 ton used square aluminum tubing as well. Some vehicles ended up using aluminum for the seats and side slats, and in those cases some were the extruded aluminum.
5: The first plastic cans we saw were around 1983. They were just a commercial type can in green. The current scepter cans came out around 1985/86 if I recall. Prior to that, there were the plastic 1 gallon naptha cans, and the plastic 5 gallon water cans.
