The second picture shows a plate low down on the engine. I cannot read the details, except "E.R.G.M." which stands for
Etablissement de Réserve Générale du Matériel Automobile, the French Army's Materiel & Logistics organisation. They ran huge rebuild programmes on WW2 materiel to re-equip the French Army after WW2, and also rebuilt Hotchkiss M201's (post WW2 produced MB jeeps) until they were taken out of service between 1981 and 2000.

The original engine block data plates were replaced when the units were rebuilt by E.R.G.M. This also recorded additional information about the rebuild like rebore / regrind information for the cylinders and crankshaft. So chances are this is a rebuilt MB engine, or a rebuilt M201 engine. Again, in either case, if it is indeed has "very few hours since a complete rebuild", it is a good buy.
Note: the 3rd picture comes from the excellent site
m201.com - everything you ever wanted to know about the M201 jeep!
