Default CMPs in Israel

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the entry ticket to this group.

I would like to share with you some pictures and info re CMPs in Israel.

As the British Mandate neared its end, in early 1948, the army was quick to dispose of many (my estimate -a few hundred) CMPs of all sorts. These were to form a major pillar in the young and poor country's transportation arena over the next decade.

A few examples - the first picture (upper left) was taken in the Northern city of Haifa, presumably in 1947. It still bears the military insignia, which I cannot decipher.

And then, one year later, we have the same body (same car? who knows) re-surfacing as an Israel Police vehicle:

The army had all sorts of CMPs:
#10265 is mobile canteen, as is #2645 (on a late model), while #28040 and #28071 may be artillery tractors. This last picture was taken in 1952, as the vehicles went for an overhaul at the "Magen Chatwood" plant in Petah Tikva.
