The data comes from a Lore bulletin no 2/81 (1982). The article, titled "Forty years of Military Truck Design and Production in Canada" was written by Mr LH Wolff and Major GW Stephanson as compiled by Col MC Johnson (the honourary Col of the LORE/EME trades back then).
If I had to bet, I would say the data was from military sources rather than from Ford of Canada, as these guys would have access to the military records of the day.
The first paragraph also gives a number of 2600 for the MLVW. That number may have varied by the end of production. At that time, the contract had jsut been signed (March of 1981).
