Last Friday on the way home, I went the "other" way down the road from work to avoid the traffic caused by local bridge repairs. As I drove past the auto wrecker 2 blocks down, some strange shadows caught my eye on one of the older trucks they had pulled into the processing area.
What I saw were the shadows from the tarp tie down hooks of a CMP Box!!
The truck was partially hidden behind some other vehicles that prevented positive identification from the road, so I went back the next morning for a better look. The 60L CMP box is mounted on a 1954 Fargo chassis, and has been "farmer welded" to a hoisting frame. The inner fenders have been cut out, and the tailgate is gone, but the rest looks quite salvageable. The yard owner informed me that the truck was Already Sold in a package deal to another wrecker, but he would talk to him about it.
Today I was informed that the buyer wanted the cab and chassis, but the box was available for $200. The wrecker will bring the whole unit over to my shop next week so we can cut the "farmer welds" that haven't broken yet ( not many...), and lift the box off with the overhead cranes at the shop.
This should fit well on the ex-firetruck I got from the top of the "scrap cutting pile" in Shaunavon a few years ago.
As a side note, I "donated" the best F60L I had back to the small town who had used it for a firetruck for many years. I had it running when they came for the unofficial donation ceremony, and they hope to have it restored to its original "Fire Truck" status by CANADA's 150th anniversary next year. Read about it here:
http://www.prairiepost.com/news/sw-s...storation.html ( There are numerous CMP's for restoration, but ONLY 1 Vanguard Fire Truck. Since it had not changed very much since they retired it, letting them have it back for their town museum seemed like a more noble cause...)
