I drove a M35CDN from MooseJaw to Winnipeg 20 years back to go to a parade. On the back of the MLVW I had my Bren carrier, and behind it I towed my KL. The distance was about 650 kms.
The Ford KLs weigh in around 11,000+ pounds and were like a boat anchor, so it was a very long trip at 60kmh. Just as we were about to reach CFB Winnipeg, the MLVW just quit and would not re-start. So I quickly re-attached the driveshafts on the Ford, moved it to the front, moved the tow bar over to the back of the Ford and the front of the MLVW, and pulled the MLVW thru the guardhouse gate so we could call it a night. We called for recovery the next day to take the MLVW (with the carrier still in the back) in for repair, and used the Ford to do our running around.
Hard to say what make the MLVW was, as they are a bit of a heinz-57. GM engine, Allison automatic, rockwell axles on the US Reo designed truck, and with a Bombardier name on the data plate. So essentially it was a Ford to the rescue again....notable that it was the GM portion of the truck that had failed.
