I think to make one adjustable system to correct all the relations between the gear change lever and the opposite end at the gearbox. The major and principal forces are applyed along the length of the big bar, not sideways. So it is not difficult to make such a system.

My findings were that the holes were perpendicular. The tubes have been fitted to various carriers without issue.
Another thing to consider is the linkage on the top of the gearbox has not been fitted incorrectly or is slightly bent out of shape as that will also cause issues selecting gears.
