Jeep Generator 12 Volt Conversion
Has anyone here gone to the trouble of converting a standard WWII Jeep MB, or GPW generator to 12 volt from 6 volt?
The generator in question is an Autolite GEC-5002-D.
I should be able to convert it by installing a set of 12 volt field coils in place of the original 6 volt field coils.
Does anyone here have any experience in doing this?
I did buy a set of field coils from a European jeep parts place that were supposed to fit, but they turned out to be about 1/2 the size of the originals, so were sent back.
Btw, this method works with British Lucas generators installed in Universal Carriers. (The 6 volt armature works for both, while the resistance of the fields is different between 6 volt and 12 volt)
