Strictly speaking, not "front lines" but a 1st person perspective of the war from someone who, after having been wounded in Sicily, held a number of staff positions within the 8th Army, 1st Canadian Army and 21st Army Group. It provides a unique perspective on what was going on upstairs, stuff that the average fellow wouldn't have a clue about.
This is the second volume of his memoirs, the first being A PORTRAIT OF WAR. It's not just simple, "dry" history, but it's not "action-adventure" either.
