Default WS No. 52 Aerial Base C2

My apologies for topic hopping so much lately, but I need to keep going with this project wherever I can. I currently am waiting for parts to arrive for both the Supply Unit for the main set and the Switchboard, Charging, so I have focused back onto getting the 1.4-inch, 9-inch square, brown, phenolic board drilled out for the Aerial Base C2.

There was no data in the manuals for the large, central mounting hole for the Aerial Base C2, so I had to disassemble it to calibre the lip on the bottom of the two porcelin insulators. That measured in at 2.1205 inches so I went with a hole diameter of 2.125 inches, for which I had a hole cutter for my drill press.

Since my drill press has no fancy measurement calibration adjustments, I had to built a wooden jig to hold the phenolic plate correctly centred for the hole cutter. That took the better part of this morning. Once everything was triple checked for correct fit, I proceeded to cut the hole. I went in one side just until the teeth on the cutter disappeared into the plate. I then backed the cutter out, flipped the plate over and went in again from the opposite side to avoid any chipping out on the surfaces of the plate.

Once all the dust had settled, I tried mounting the Aerial Base C2. It fit like a glove and I have no idea how long it has been since it was last fitted to one of these plates.

I now have to reconfigure the jig I built to get eight perimeter, 7/16-inch holes drilled that allow the Aerial Base No. C2 to be mounted onto a WIRE-5 Aerial Chimney.
