I found the newspaper clipping. It was published on 21 Jun 1972. With the mention of the intent for the tank to participate in a parade on 1 July, and the image of a license plate which would expire in Sept 72, I have a strong hunch that the above images were taken on 1 Jul 1972. (The prints being developed over a year later appears to be a red herring).
If this is correct, then Don had possession of the tank for less than two weeks prior to the images which supports Dennis’ assertion.
While the newspaper image is poor quality, I think that if the weight class were present on the side of the vehicle we should be able to see it.
