Hanno - I like yours and other interpretations of the mic rig!
It is being wielded by it's creator, Brian Laurence, who specialises in recording location soundscapes. The Mics are 416 types, each with a 60 degree spread to make up a full 360 sound experience which is translated into Dolby surround.
Believe me, the experience is truly awesome and you really feel you are part of the scene.
We recorded the airshow from various perspectives including among the crowd (who seem to be all around you with the aircraft action way in the front) and directly underneath the display, well away from other distracting sounds. On one day the aircraft were flown just for us to record them with the Meteor passing over us at less than tree height at full speed. The experience was awesome - we felt the shockwave and immediately were enveloped in the wake turbulence smelling or warm burnt jet A1 fuel.
Just wait until you see the pics... and the Meteor was making it's famous "blue note" an organ like sound caused by airflow over the 20mm shell ejectors.
Better than vegemite? Better than sex? I'll let you lot judge when the DVD is released!

Here's one I recorded earlier (much higher)
