Dearest restoration pals,
Whilst looking for my first Carrier to restore 3 years or so ago, I was given a hot tip that there was most of a Carrier an hour north of Sault Ste. Marie in Agawa Bay. I scurried up there, and sure enough, an armourless Carrier awaited.
Most of you fellows know the rest of the story - the guy who owned it said that a lot of peole stop and ask - so it must be worth $4K. To me it was worth $400, so I headed back to Southern Ontario, found a Carrier to restore, and am living happily ever after.
But I wondered what ever became of that machine. 2 weeks ago, while on holiday, I drove up to SS Marie, then to Sudbury - just a drive to remind myself how big Canada really is. I stopped up to see if that Carrier was there - and lo and behold it was not! Super, I thought - a resto guy has bartered the owner down, and taken it home to fix up. It needed armour, but the rest was there.
This past Sunday we attended a local steam how with my Carrier, and a guy from up North says - " if you want another one, it just showed up at the SS Marie scrap yard".
I figure the owner got tired of folks giving him a surprised look when he told the price - and had it hauled away.
I have the contact numbers, and could even be talked into helping with the recovery if somebody is interested. When I saw it last the steering was in good shape, tracks great, road wheels real good, and engine and cooling system intact.
Please give me a note if anyone is interested.
Best regards,
Stewart
