Default Prototype Carrier

You can see the thought process behind this design as they tried different ways to reduce the notorious pitching problems the carriers had. Mounting a rear bogie reversed on the front might have taken out some of the bounce. Track warp stearing on this beast would have been very difficult with that rigid leading bogie tho'. My bet is that it threw track too easily. Hitting vertical obstacles at speed would have been very rough as well as the single bogies didn't have as much flex as the doubles (couldn't rotate around the cross shaft).

As Geoff says, fascinating nonetheless!

Cheers! Mike
