Some D-Day facts.
The first troops to land on D-Day were the pathfinders of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion who landed a little after midnight on June 6th.
Canadian troops of the first wave were the only assault troops to take their objectives.
The only troops to land on the beaches and reach the final objective on the 6th of June was a troop of Sherman tanks commanded by Lt. McCormick belonging to C Sqn of the 1st Hussars.
It was Canadian minesweepers which cleared the approaches to Omaha beach.
Canadian troops of 7CIB were the first to capture their D-Day objectives on the 7th of June.
