There's a great story of a Canadian War Correspondent (rumoured to be Charles Lynch), who, on releasing his carrier pigeon to carry his D-Day report back to London, saw it circle two or three times before flying directly towards the German lines. Shocked at this unexpected avian behavior the WarCo stood up, shook his fist at the departing bird and yelled out "you..., you,... traitor!"
