Don't worry, I failed on my first try too.
Keep the images below 700 pixels wide and try file size less than 100K. I've only been able to atttach a file using the browse function in the "Attach file:" area (I know it sounds obvious but...). These guides helped me to make it work.
I think there is an FAQ on this as well.
