Thanks Geoff, I knew you'd know the friend I was talking about and am glad you remembered which medal it was. And yes, he certainly did deserve it. It still haunts freshly and deeply after all these years. DSC as in Distinguished Service "CROSS", correct?

He is the executor as eldest of about 4 siblings, so has been very busy dealing with all of the neccesary practicalities that must be dealt with when someone passes. He's on the other side of dealing with the most immediate things and can be a bit quiet now. So many things to be dealt with, and at such a time

I'll ask him about the "soldiers" tradition and if the USA Soldiers hold a similar tradition.
