Recheck your calculations

1 metric ton (tonne) = 0.9842 Imperial Tons

Therefore 3.5 tonnes = 3.4447 Imperial tons

The European driving licence limit for car licences is 3500 kg (3.5 tonnes) and is unladen vehicle weight plus theoretical payload, or Gross Vehicle Weight.
