Looks like the 128 was the last thing to go onto the truck before the civy paintjob i sanded back a corner of the 4th Armd bde sign and there is only the same paint as under the white numbers also if you look carefully where the chipped paint is you can see the layers of paint . I really need someone to come to my place and take a look to confirm what i am seeing .
I also found under the Hood/cover on the left a 5A and on the right a 943 which i assume are the F15A and 1943 seen in some of keiths photos ? .

Yes, generally on the 15CWT Fords the stencil under the bonnet was 15 or 15A on the left and the year on the right.
On some the numbers were nicely hand painted as on my FGT which used the Ford model code C291 and then F.A.T. 4X4.
Often, with vehicles which saw long service such as the gun tractors they were repainted several times resulting in a look like this when they weathered.
It's had at least three repaints not counting the sawmill red which has completely weathered away. The last army coat was gloss deep bronze green.
