Hi Gordon
According to the parts manual the coil is a 6V unit even though the truck is 24V. Originally the batteries had a tap off one of the cell connectors that supplied 6V to the ignition and for the 6V, WW2 trailer connector on the rear. The newer batteries don't have the lead bridges on the top so the wire is hooked up to just one of the 12V batteries. From there I am not sure if the resistor cuts it down to 6V or if there is now 12V going to the coil. That is something I will have to check on my truck. You can use a 12V coil anyway as it will work fine in a 6V system. Just don't buy a cheapy Chinese job. The Delco Remy part number for the DAF coil comes up now as no longer available. Hope this helps a bit. Please post some photos of the truck.
Cheers,
Barry
