Your problem is that it was meant for a 3 prong thermal flasher. The third prong on a three prong thermal flasher was for the little bulb in the signal arm.

One alternative would be to splice into the front left and front right wires, with a diode in each to prevent cross feeding. That would have the same effect as the separate contact in the flasher. Also, you cannot take the feed off the rear lamps as that would add the indication of the brake lights to the indicator bulb, which you do not want.

Of course, the simple method would be to go back to a 3 prong flasher.
