I'm guessing that the master cylinder may have been an "off the shelf" part. If this is correct and you can find out the other uses (have you tried a search on the VW/Audi part numbers in the assembly - either the whole thing or parts) it may be easier to locate parts for repairing your cylinder. An example of this is that many early VW Rabbit (Golf) parts had Audi Fox or 80 (I think) origins. It might also be useful to figure out the original designer of the system Bosch? Ate? Girling? Brembo? etc. to better cross reference outside the VW empire. I no longer have the manual for that Rabbit but recall that there were two distinct brake systems using different manufacturer's components.
