The 8cwt has same engine as a 3 tonner, so no reason to doubt its power. The Chev 216 was very much the same as the Bedford 28hp and the OXD's towing loaded Queen Mary trailers worked well.
I was on car rally across Australia about 26 years ago and the Royal Australian Navy entered a Maple Leaf truck with the fuselage of a C-47 on it. They struggled across the Outback and desert and still made it in to the overnight stops.
