Sean, this is the magnificent roofed command halftrack shown well in Donald Graves' book SOUTH ALBERTAS. They brought it back.
I've got some good halftrack links, and I'll post them when I get home. My guess - having seen photos of the thing inside and out - is that it won't take 50K to do it. However, I DON'T know the status of the complete drivetrain... but parts ARE available. As Sean mentioned, tracks are your biggest problem. You have the advantage of working on a vehicle which doesn't suck up parts like, for instance, jeeps. Private halftrack owners are a small but dedicated lot, and you'll get some support from them.
More later - but I applaud this project. Do it RIGHT, a frame-up restoration. History demands no less. Most of your cost will be in elbow grease!
