I concur with Dave's assessment of the parts. The M151 did not use a tapered wheel nut...the ones he shows are correct for that application. The long tapered ones are for the 5/4 ton.



As a mechanic, we did not particularly like the unstucker plates. It meant we needed to use 2 or 3 sockets to remove a wheel. And the tiny cross wrench that came with the kit was too short to work on the wheel nuts. We would remove them, replace the long wheelnuts with normal ones, and put the kits in the back of the truck.



Re Terry's assessment of operators and winches, I recall operators calling us when they got stuck despite there being several winches on the vehicles at the location of the casualty. Wisely, the operators knew they were entering dangerous territory once you hooked up the winch cable and did not have sufficient experience. Not everything is a 1:1 straight pull.
