If it has a French Army data plate it could be a WW2 rebuild, or be of post WW2 French manufacture. In the latter case you will have an engine which is practically identical to the WW2 Willys (not: Willy's
) engine, except for casting markings and some technical improvements. Hotchkiss production never progressed to types after the MB, they just improved on the existing WW2 design.
In either case, at $1000 it sounds like a good buy.
