Thanks a lot Phil, if you could scan the interesting part of the manual (I don't know if there's something like an overall drawing of the parts) I would be grateful. If you want to make hi-res scans that cannot be hosted on this very forum I can store them on one of my sites to make them available to the MLU community.
For the rest, quite likely I didn't pose the question properly. What I assume is an external oil filter is the cylinder attached to the lower left side of the bonnet as shown in the attached pic.
