I just received a power point program from Wilf Alexander about Spitfire Beer. It explains that the Shepherd Neame Brewery used themed advertising for this beer. Their ads came with such slogans as:
- Downed all over Kent, just like the Luftwaffe
- Bandits a 6 o'clock
- Not for Schlossers, Wagners and Kuntz
- Goering, Goering, gone
- No Nazi aftertaste
- first left and then the third reich
- No Fokker comes close
- How to make a sauerkraut-mention the war
- Spitfire- the bottle of Britain
Now to the point of this. When in Beltring, each evening we would visit the Spitfire Bar for a beer. Okay 2 beer.
Is this why it was called the Spitfire Bar? I just thought it was named that to keep a WW2 theme, not realizing there was a Spitfire beer.
PS- It was reported on the BBC that Steve Stone and Dirk Leegwater had more than a couple of beer one evening and possibly missed a day of the action in Beltring.
