Default Gippsland tilly

A Standard Tilly seen in Morwell, Gippsland during the 1950s.

Some years ago the late Standard historian Brian Rawson told me he collated all of the Standard tilly records he had found in the Vic. registrations records , he said around 80 to 90 tillies had been registered in Victoria in the immediate post-war era. The Morwell tilly reg. prefix looks like 'H' which was issued in 1946. Apparently the Standard version is the rarest surviving type: for me, it is sad to note that a few of the Australian delivered examples have been shipped to the UK in recent years.

The cable operated brakes in these Standards are marginal: I remember Standard tilly owner Henry D. saying that driving in modern traffic is a scary experience.

The Standard tillies were being advertised in Australian newspapers as early as Sept/October 1944.
