That looks like the same spare tire bracket as was used on the MLVW, and adapted to the 5 ton. For some reason I don't recall that modification.
As to the non-directional tires, as far as I remember, they were still available, however, on certain 5 tons, we installed the MLVW 1100-20 tires because of the better traction those tires provided on highway surfaces. Wreckers especially come to mind.
