In my own experience, the old skoole snow shoes are better for beating through bush and making a trail. The bear paw snowshoes are better for flotation in deep snow. When I was up in the arctic, I used snow shoes that we could add on additional flotation tails when carrying more weight in deep snow.

The kit for climbing was a lot more sophisticated than what I used in the 70's.
Stuart, did you happen to take a pic of them ? (and the bindings) did the CAF get a new mukluk also ? Looks like a good turn out and event for the MV community to get behind and hats off to all the participants either runners or displaying kit and vehicles.
