Default Re: Unit Serial Number - 62 LAD

Jason - for the late 44-45 period, you’re looking for Serial No. 680, No. 62 Light Aid Detachment (Type A), RCEME, which was the light aid detachment attached to Serial No. 1102, 7th Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment (17th Duke of York’s Royal Canadian Hussars), CAC, the divisional reconnaissance regiment of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division.

As for jeep markings for No. 62 Light Aid Detachment, the Arm of Service serial number they used was ‘41' centrally located on a RCEME coloured background. The formation sign used, was that of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. Their ‘Unit Mobilization Serial Number,’ if applied to a jeep would appear as ‘680/1.’

More information on the use of a ‘Unit Mobilization Serial Number’ on vehicles can be found here: https://servicepub.wordpress.com/201...rseas-1943-45/

and the use of them on a unit’s kit/baggage/stores can be found here: https://servicepub.wordpress.com/201...rseas-1943-45/

Also, the unit serial number of ‘680’ was allocated to No. 62 Light Aid Detachment upon their embodiment, which was effective 12 February 1941, and remained such, until they were disbanded effective 15 July 1945.

Cheers
