All screw threads are Imperial (BSF), the strap tensioner is 5/16-in BSC (British Standard Cycle Thread), which I think is 26 tpi. Taps/dies are available from various model engineering suppliers in the UK. It may be best to make the knurled knuts out of stainless steel rather than painting or electroplating them.

Yes BSC is 26 tpi but apparently there are some anomalies that can crop up.
