Reasonably certain it is on my end, but I simply cannot get pictures to load to this forum with any regularity. In spite of many attempts.

In the event, I finally bit the bullet and cut the horizontial screw where it meets the part at the left end, as shown in the previously posted pics. Then bored that part and rethreaded it. Turns out the thread is 1/4-28, which is the US National Fine series.

Then found that the head on the right end was slightly too large to fit within the lips of the main body when screwed into the new thread. Also when I chucked it in the lathe the head was not truly round on the major diameter. Easily turned to fit in only about four steps.

All of which leads me to believe the headed screw was a replacement which was meant to be carefully hand fitted, but was not.

Reminded me of my first experience with hand fitting factory parts, that being the rather large center section of the bonnet of a '67 XK-E. Really loved that vehicle...
