Neither do most school busses. They aren't tactical vehicles but they endure plenty of abuse, both from poor drivers and the students.
Come to think of it, very few heavy duty automatics have parking pawls built in. Have you seen how small most park pawls are? I would rather trust a transmission (or rear axle, but not a flimsy cable that sort of applies the service brakes) mounted parking brake. At least some of the transmission mounted brakes can lock the rear wheels while the vehicle is driving. Don't try that very often with the typical car park position on the transmission.
