Another Alcan Hwy scene with the Mule pack radio .
And a surviving set . Would make a great display at a show, with a live Mule/pony and some hay.

More radios on the Alcan Hwy.
A SCR 193, often seen in Dodge radio Command Cars. The transmitter , seen on the Left, is a BC-191, a pre-war era GE design , it was a crude but powerful mobile set, and it demanded very high Amps from the onboard batteries. I have a account written by a Guadalcanal veteran, he wrote about the BC-191 in glowing terms, marking it out as being unstoppable in the damp high humidity climate. The 191 uses large, tall 211 triode tubes, these tubes are still in production in China , because the audiophile Hi Fi enthusiasts love them. The tubes require careful neutralising, otherwise the 191 set will take off and go out of control. Lower Right, is the heavy dynamotor, it supplies around 1000 Volts for the 211 tubes. The BC 312 receiver, above , has its own internal dynamotor. The 191 was in production until 1945, by that time, it was considered to be obsolete , many new sets were sold as surplus. A difficult set to use, most of them were scrapped for parts. In Australia, the dept. of civil aviation converted and used many 191 sets as airport NDB beacons .
