Hi all,
I was shown a ww2 ex-army welder trailer yesterday. Australian built. Built in Melbourne by (? first name forgotton ) Joel and co. It was a 200 or 300 DC welder powered by a flathead v8. Looked impressive. I haven't got any photos as it was raining and quite dark. Does anyone own one of these or can provide some photos? Interested to know how many were built and such things. I've seen generator trailers but not welder trailers before. Hope to get some photos of it in the future. Regards. |

Hi Ryan
I have a welder as you described , Ford V8 , 300 amps, trailed on Chev wheels so may have been put together by GMH. Regards Jim S.

Excellent Jim, thank you.
The example I looked at had a few minor differences such as it was missing the cylinder yours has to the front of the trailer. It also had a complete instrument panel with dials and gauges towards the front. This is where the ID/makers plate was. Pretty sure it wasn't a GMH example though. Should have taken photos of it anyway. ![]() |

Hi Ryan
The cylinder on the front is an add on , it was a truck vacuum tank and now is a petrol tank , the original tank is in the roof of the unit is quite a long tank and the trailer needs to be level to use all the fuel. The welding gauges are where the leads are coming from where as the engine gauges are on the partition between the generator and the engine and are viewed from the generator side. The drawbar has been lowered to be drawn by a smaller vehicle than a Blitz. Regards Jim S.
