Does anyone out there have a date and or serial (?) numbers for the first M38A1s built in Canada? I have an early one (mid January 1953) and I wonder where it fits in the production run?? Thanks..

My understanding is that Ford S/Ns started with "F000000" (or maybe "1" at the end). If you can find the Ford number, then you'll know where it fell in the production run.

Hi Bob. Hope this helps. To find this info I phoned, Ford of Canada helpline.
Trucks were built from 11-28-1952 Till 3-24-53. Serial # started at 200041 and ran to 200750. For a total of 709 trucks. They were delivered to 27 ORD. DEP London Ont. The truck we have at the museum is Ser. # 200586 and was built on 3-23-53. our CFR-53-833. Hope this helps, with your query. Rob Last edited by Comox Air Force Museum; 16-06-11 at 22:03. Great information mind you. Of course, the records of things like this will not always be spot on 60 years later. Last edited by rob love; 16-06-11 at 22:26. |

Thankyou Gentlemen for your help !
My jeep is #200286 Delivered Jan 14 1953 That makes it the 245th off the production line. It is a very clean original jeep with minor civilian mods (lights ) and I am the second civilian owner. It sat many years in a garage, outof the weather but not out of the moisture/humidity. When I went to puchase it we (vendor & seller) were surprised to find the engine stuck. When I bought it pulled it apart there was considerable rust in the valve train, seats etc and the explanation seems to be that the oil pan/sump was overfilled, much of it with gasoline which appears to have washed all the lubrication out of the top end of the engine. Too much carburation ? or leaking fuel pump or ??...All nicely overhauled now! |
