Just read an article on FACEBOOK about three of these boats being rediscovered in a pen somewhere in Germany. Seems the British Army blew up the entrance after the war, sealing the three boats inside the dry docks. Somebody tried to strip some parts from them in later years, but from the photos looks like two complete boats could be made from what still sits there today. Quite a remarkable U-Boat design and I do not know if any ever made it into service before the war ended.

Is that these ones, discovered back in 1985? :http://uboat.net/history/hamburg_elbe2.htm

That be them, Rob. The article I saw was from early last year on a link for WARHISTORYONLINE.COM and it seemed to suggest access could be made with special permission now. Part of the Port of Hamburg property perhaps.

Type XXI boats went into service in late 1944, but didn't accomplish much. Allied anti-sub techniques were very effective that late in the war.
