OK - I've been reading this wonderful site long enough to put out a puzzler or two. Someone has the answers...The truth is out there.

I've had a busy year dragging my (mkII) carrier around to a few shows. (Stewart Loy and Perry Kitson get all the attention - but I'm there honest, with a half dozen or so from my reserve unit) Regardless, I am still so enthused that now I have started to rebuild a spare engine, and perhaps that moss and primer covered mkI in the weeds behind the shop.

A flattie block was shaken to remove the rats and thrown into Stewart's truck and after much pounding, prodding, praying and prying , I got the cam out today. The valves, springs , some keepers and guides are still in place. There is some adult supervision so I didn't screw anthing up.

The 24 stud block is stamped on the top front:
TL25488F
In the casting above the right water pump is:
81
Cast in the bell housing is:
L 28 3
It has the oil cooler fittings in the bell housing, and a smidgen of green paint.

A set of old heads have just come back from the shop and were subjected to some close scrutiny. There are numbers (casting, mfg, i.d. - whatever you wish to call them) in the center of the head, as follows:
C81A 8050A,and C81A 8049A (another similar set is on the shelf)
Between the water outlet and the carb is marked:
G22, and G10

So the questions are as follows:

Is this indeed a carrier engine?
When and where was it made?
Does anyone have real CANADIAN specs for this engine?
Are the heads left and right? or do I have two flukey sets?

More to follow.....
