Hi all
The debut image of the combination three Australian Armoured Cars, i.e. the LP4 "Bandicoot", the Rover and the Dingo. These three took part in the South Australian Bay to Birdwood run on Sunday 36 September 2004. The route covers 75kms, a lot of which is very hilly and switchback driving. I drove the Rover and apart from a couple of stops due to vapourising and 16 million double declutch gear changes, the day went well. However I felt I had a hangover the following day. Never mind, it was a real buzz. Bob |

It must've been a slow trip up the Adelaide hills in a Rover! What's the body roll like on cornering?

Hi Keefy
Actually it was fairly easy to drive. The main problem was overheating through an area known as Chain of Ponds. It has two heartbreak hills in that section. We overheated and vapourised half way up the first hill and stopped on an outside curve making all following traffic pass us on the left. Luckily it was in the shade so we just ate our sandwiches and told everyone it was our lunch break. It took about 3-3 1/2 hours to do the 75km. I reckon that about 900 of the 1400 vehicles passed us at this location. It was still a great experience though. All I need to do now is drive the Dingo and then I will have driven three of the four unique Oz armoured cars. Then I need to find a running Ford armoured car and that will make the complete early set. Then theres the Staghound, Saladin, Saracen, Ferret, Matilda, Centurion, Dorchester, APC, Carrier............... at least I have a tank suit. Bob |
